Well the first day went pretty well....
Class went from 11:30 to 6:30. we had a few breaks in there, and I'm pretty sure they tried to grab 20 mins extra at lunch.... typical sub teacher stuff I think.
Turns out I know more than they do, which is always good..lol The day started with a test, so all I had to do was administer it and collect the papers at the end.
Then we went on to lecturing about fuel tanks and their systems. I tried to employ some engagement techniques and got them to arrange their desk in their work groups. They have already been divided up into 4 teams of 4.
The lesson plan for the day was to understand schematic drawings of fuel tank systems. These can be a bit overwhelming at first, so instead of just explaining it to them I got one member from each group come up to the board and draw out part of a fuel system. This way the class could tell them what to add to the drawing and they could figure out where to put it. In this way they would be involved in the learning of a schematic.
After the class made their drawing, we looked at different schematics form different airplanes. By the end they seemed to get it. -- They don't know it yet but tomorrow ill have teams 1+2 compete against teams 2+3 and each draw out a schematic and get them to rate each others for certain criteria, the loosing team brings timbits on Friday!
In the afternoon we had shop time, and half the class went to the library, the other went and looked into the fuel system on the airplane.
I thought it went well, though the kids liked me.... turns out non of them were alive when I graduated from BCIT...YIKES!!!!
One funny thing happened though... at the end of the day we were all leaving, and their regular instructor came by as he was working a late shift on a special project, and they all ran up to him to chat like lost puppy dogs abandoning me in the hall way... my class dumped me for their regular instructor... in 2 seconds......WTF!!!!...lol...life of a sub guess...lol.... I'll write more tomorrow!
