Well its almost the end of the 3250 course and I've been reflecting on a very busy and extremely fast 2 months. It was the beginning of October when I started the PIPD program and I've complete so far, 3100(almost), 3210,3220, 3230 and now 3250. 3240 was to be this week, but I blew that off to accept 4 weeks of teaching. All in all its been pretty great. I've found it very interesting at times, and very overwhelming at other times.
My reflections have been centered around how much I'm going to be able to retain going forward and how much I will be able to put into good practice. Its hard to think that after only a few months I'll be formed as a teacher, with all my beliefs grounded in solid practical knowledge, but I should have some idea at least. The best thing that has happened to me during this time is getting a temporary teaching position at BCIT.
The three days teaching was invaluable, and the 4 weeks starting tomorrow will be even more invaluable. I am excited about putting all the knowledge I have learned to practice, and seeing how it works out over a the 4 week course.
All the courses in the PIPD program has been different, but they have all had there benefits, 3250 is no different. The course has been very heavy in content, a lot of reading and evaluation. The assignment have been fun to do and its been interesting to keep a blog going. I must admit that its a very different type of learning than I have ever done. Reading and commenting on the blogs might seem a straight forward thing to do, but its terribly challenging and been enjoyable and challenging too. The best that came out of this course was hearing from the other teachers experiences of what works and what does not.
Some of the topics I found interesting some not so much, but they all had something to offer in the way of real life experiences and its been a great journey so far.
This course will be over by the end of this week, but I will post up some stories of how the teaching goes for the next few weeks, and I hope its just the beginning of my teaching career.
