Well today is the day.
If you asked me 10 years ago if I would be teaching a class at BCIT I would have said very unlikely...well today is the unlikely day.. and I'm excited about it.
Today I will be teaching my first class ever. A level 7 of 8 class, giving lectures for three days on fuel systems on aircraft. The students are almost ready to graduate and are eager to learn (I hope). I have been shadowing an instructor for the last 2 days and today is my first day solo.
so, what am I thinking....
I'm a bit terrified...
I'm excited...
I'm worried I'll look like I don't know anything....hard to do cause the students really don't know that much... was I ever that young & green?...Yikes!!!
I'm very eager to try to engage the students....
The class is a class with some slight ESL issues, so that will be a challenge. I've got some ideas on how to engage the students, and looking forward to applying some of the techniques I have learned from the PIDP program. I'm very aware of my post on the over use of the Socratic method , so I'll watch out for that, but in general I am really excited to get it all going.
One thing that is interesting is that there is an instructors web site, and I can see all the course material, the learning objectives, and the evaluations. I can see how the course has validity and reliability, I can look at the exam and see which questions are good and which not so good. To be able to bring it all together is really neat.
anyway, got to get going or I'll be late, (that be a great start eh!) ..... off I go. day 1.
Scott.
