I've been very busy the last week, I've been put on shadow detail and class prep time. Its been a very busy time. Somehow I've been given marking to do to? not sure how that works? - their not even my class...
Anyway, its been 20 years since I have done some of this stuff. That might seem odd, but there are so many different airplanes out there and there all very different. I've spent the better part of 20 years on big jets. I've done a bunch of piston engine work, but not for a long time, so it a matter of brining it all back to the surface.
So far I've been spending most of my time working on power point presentations, and figuring out the computer system at work then trying to find time to hit the books. The class I am about to inherit a class full of misbehaving young adults.... where to begin...
1.well first of all there is one student who can't remove his cell phone from his fingers... surgery is being considered..as he has been to the dean once already.
2. then we have a boat load of student who are almost failing and instead of realizing that the 28 marks they missed out of 100 (70 is a pass) are more important than the 1 question they feel is poorly written they choose to argue the point to death cause they feel somehow robbed of that mark....looking forward to that!
3. we have a hormone problem too.... there are 4 girls in the glass, all very cute, and all a bit flirty...boys being boys... well its a bit distracting for them and there is lots of trying to be cool going on...don't really know what to do there except perhaps bring a squirt gun to class.
4. they are not highly motivated to say the least.
So I am looking forward to trying some engagement techniques, try to reason with them, I'm stay far away from dealing with cute girl problems, (I'll just slap the boys up side the head... ) and ill see how it all goes!
stay tuned!
